The Deeds of My Father: William L. Moreno

In this article, first published in the British Journal of Psychodrama in 2006, Joseph Moreno reflects on both his father and more famous uncle, J.L. Moreno, and on his own introduction to psychodrama.

A history of two brothers
In all that has been written about Jacob Moreno, his life and contributions, the significance of his relationship with his brother, William, appears largely overlooked. For example, in Marineau’s (1989) otherwise informative biography, in regard to William he states only that “he was the first Levy to emigrate to the United States. A great admirer of his brother Jacob, he helped him financially in Vienna, and than in New York.” True enough, but this scant reference tells us little about a life-long association that was complex, and one that had a profound impact on both men’s lives, as well as my own.

Conference Reflections
Local ANZPA members who were part of the large contingent of Melbournians who traveled to Dunedin have spoken highly of their experience. People mentioned feeling very welcomed and very well looked after by the conference organizers and generally enjoyed the warmth of the exchanges with ANZPA folk from all round the world.

Mario on YouTube

Thanks to Jenny Wilson for finding Mario Cossa on YouTube "with a great little model psychodrama theatre explaining psychodrama surprisingly clearly to a TV audience (because explaining psychodrama to a completely naive person seems quite difficult to me and yet he does it so well)".

Visting Sweden

by Annie Currie

During 1999 I spent some time in the village of Linton on the north coast of Devon. I had ventured there to spend a couple of weeks training with Marcia Karp in her beautifully appointed hillside residence overlooking the Bristol Channel.

During those weeks I was particularly drawn to two Swedish women, Birgitta Lindholm, a family therapist and Cecilia Berge a psychodramatist. We greatly enjoyed each others company during workshop times and in between.

Over the intervening years, I keep contact with them and was invited by them last year to visit Sweden and do a little work whilst I was there.

A recommendation from Erica Hollander:

"Anyone interested in psychodrama may be interested in this startling and moving video talk about the experience of having a stroke from a Harvard neuroanatomist, Dr Jill Bolte Taylor, who was recently named one of Time Magazines 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2008."
