For those who may have missed this, or misplaced the reference, a very valuable and hard-to-get reference, Moreno's "magnum opus," Who Shall Survive---discussing sociometry and psychodrama---in its 2nd edition (1953), which has much more material---is available FREE online: http://www.asgpp.org/docs/WSS/WSS.html

The Deeds of My Father: William L. Moreno

In this article, first published in the British Journal of Psychodrama in 2006, Joseph Moreno reflects on both his father and more famous uncle, J.L. Moreno, and on his own introduction to psychodrama.

A history of two brothers
In all that has been written about Jacob Moreno, his life and contributions, the significance of his relationship with his brother, William, appears largely overlooked. For example, in Marineau’s (1989) otherwise informative biography, in regard to William he states only that “he was the first Levy to emigrate to the United States. A great admirer of his brother Jacob, he helped him financially in Vienna, and than in New York.” True enough, but this scant reference tells us little about a life-long association that was complex, and one that had a profound impact on both men’s lives, as well as my own.

As President of this Association I keep my eye on the larger stage. Two recent pieces of writing I have become familiar with. One is a poem written by leaders of the Hopi tribe in the North America. In this writing they exhort us to know that:

“The time of the lone wolf is over.  Gather yourselves! Banish the word "struggle" from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. We are the ones we have been waiting for.”

Recently, Walter became reacquainted with this article, originally written in January, 1987. For the full backstory visit Walter's blog.

Just prior to running a social skills group I had been reflecting on Gregory Bateson's ideas about the nature of information and new responses and how that might relate to Moreno's notion of spontaneity.

Mario on YouTube

Thanks to Jenny Wilson for finding Mario Cossa on YouTube "with a great little model psychodrama theatre explaining psychodrama surprisingly clearly to a TV audience (because explaining psychodrama to a completely naive person seems quite difficult to me and yet he does it so well)".

“Becoming Jane”: why “coping role” got in the graphics frame and why it should not have been there.

Reading “Becoming Jane” in the ANZPA Journal 2007 I asked you to consider that thinking in terms of ‘role’ we have a range of distinctive windows for us to open. Moreno opened a range of windows in to role throughout his writing.
